Revised Downtown Secondary Plan Presentation

Hello

You are invited to the event outlined below. It is really important to attend this if you can. The Ward Residents’ Association with your input has really affected this version of The Downtown Secondary Plan. Hopefully by now you realize how much this does and will affect you, your life, your property and all the while still trying to keep in place components of our historical neighbourhood that make it unique. It is not over. There are elements in the DDSP that still need our attention. We cannot feel as though the job is done, it is not.

Looking forward to seeing you at this meeting.

OPEN HOUSE

The Downtown Secondary Plan Study and Proposed Secondary Plan

Residents and businesses are invited to provide input and share comments as the City of Guelph discusses its Downtown Secondary Plan – Envision Guelph Downtown.

Wednesday, June 15

6:30–8:30 p.m.

(Presentation at 7 p.m.)

Council Chambers, City Hall, 1 Carden Street

The focus of the open house will be the Downtown Secondary Plan Study and Proposed Secondary Plan. This document is available at guelph.ca/downtownplan.

The Downtown Secondary Plan –

Envision Guelph Downtown

As Guelph continues to grow, the City is planning for more homes, businesses and jobs downtown. Envision Guelph Downtown will provide a long-term vision for future development, and incorporate the goals of Ontario’s Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, Guelph’s Community Energy Initiative, its Urban Design Action Plan and other special planning studies.

The City is seeking public input regarding the directions for guiding development within the study area over the next 20 years. The Study, including public input, will provide the basis for City staff to prepare the Official Plan Amendment to be brought forward later this year.

Dear Neighbors,
We realize and understand that the community has been through a very difficult time since the incident
that occurred in your neighborhood on April 30, 2011.
During times of difficulty, it can feel like there is nowhere to turn, and that finding understanding is next
to impossible. We want to extend our hand in support to all of those impacted during this traumatic event
through the services we offer here at Victim Services Wellington. We have provided support in our
community for over 10years, offering immediate, practical and emotional support to victims of crime,
trauma and tragic circumstance. This past year the staff and volunteers directly contacted and supported
over 1000 people of this community needing support while working through trauma or tragedy.
Please pass on our contact information to any family or friends who may be struggling with feelings
around what has happened. Please to call to get the support that is offered and needed…it takes a
community to heal.
Sincerely,
Liz Kent

We are planning an exciting evening for you on  WEDNESDAY APRIL 20TH AT 7PM to acknowledge 1 year later with the TWRA.
We will have a selection of  student projects from the University of Guelph and the University of Waterloo Landscape Architecture Students.  These projects cover 5 Arthur St. South, Woods 2 on Duke St. and the area between Duke and Huron St.
These projects are hypothetical designs which show a vast range of ideas and creativity.
We will also have City Staff on hand to discuss revisions to the Draft Downtown Secondary Plan.  The Ward Residents Association has made a significant impact to the Downtown Secondary Plan.  For all those who thought the City won’t listen….we invite you to come and take note.  While we know this is a process we feel that we have been very successful with this level.
City Staff will also speak to why the tunnel at the top of Neeve had to be closed.
On WED APRIL 20TH we will also present local historian Terry Crowley.  Terry has just completed a historical booklet Ward One focussing on The Ward and will be presenting a brief lecture and discussion on the history of our neighbourhood.
If you have any questions please email us. Bring your neighbours for this action packed exciting evening with The Ward Residents Association.
